Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Director of Center for Language Education Institution Type: College / University Location: Hong Kong Position: Director THE HONG KONG UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Director of Center for Language Education The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a leading research university in Asia comprising the Schools of Science, Engineering, Business & Management, and Humanities & Social Science, as well as the HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School in Nansha, Guangdong Province. The University is committed to excellence in education and research. Current student enrolment is over 12,000 full-time equivalent at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The medium of instruction and administration is English. The primary mission of the Center for Language Education (CLE) is to deliver the Universitys language enhancement programs for English and Chinese to undergraduate and postgraduate students. English and Chinese communication courses account for 15 of the 120 credits of the undergraduate degree. The Center also offers co-curricular activities for English and Chinese and provides a Third Languages program. Reporting to the Dean of School of Humanities and Social Science, the CLE Director provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the Center and is the administrative head with responsibility for the day-to-day management of a unit of more than 80 full-time teaching staff. The CLE Director plays a key role in developing and monitoring the undergraduate and postgraduate programs for all Schools. The Center will also be involved in the delivery of English courses in the Xian Jiaotong University-HKUST Joint School of Sustainable Development Program, and a Master of Arts Degree Program in International Language Education to be launched in 2014 at HKUST. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in a relevant area; substantial experience in developing and administering language programs at university level; demonstrated commitment to excellence in curriculum development and pedagogy; proven qualities of leadership and managerial capability involving multiple stakeholders in a multilingual and multicultural academic environment. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.
