In the Waygal Valley of Nuristan Province, Afghanistan, north of Camp Blessing, one of the most storied battles of the Afghan War took place - commonly referred to as the Battle of Wanat. 9 Americans were killed and 27 were wounded in the battle. 53 valor awards were awarded for the battle - to include 18 Bronze Stars for Valor and 10 Silver Stars. RYAN PITTS, was called by the President of the United States and told he would be awarded the MEDAL OF HONOR for his actions that day – the 54th Valor award from that battle. Yesterday, this became public knowledge. All ROCK (2-503/173rd ABCT) Paratroopers are justifiably proud that RYAN PITTS will join SAL GIUNTA and KYLE WHITE as a ROCK MOH awardee from that 2007-2008 tour and be recognized as the 8th MOH awardee in 2-503s history.
