Honoring Our Flag and Wearing Your Decorations The Fourth of July is coming, and AMRA hopes that you’ll show your patriotism for America’s Birthday celebration! Here are some timely reminders for our members: Honoring the American Flag During the Pledge of Allegiance, Military Retirees and Veterans may uncover and place their hand over their hearts. During the Passing, raising or lowering of the Flag, Military Retirees and Veterans may salute the flag. During the National Anthem, Military Retirees and Veterans may salute the flag. Please note: H.R. 2284 (113th Congress 1st Session) seeks to amend USC Title 4 so that veterans may salute the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance. Wearing Your Military Decorations Military Retirees and Veterans may wear their decorations only on clean, serviceable garments during suitable situations. These are Patriotic Holidays, military service organization meetings, formal dress occasions, funerals, weddings, Scout or government functions. They look their best on a clean suit jacket. Females should take care that their medals do not compete with jewelry or other accessories.
