Hope everyone can get out and enjoy the weather today. Chances for - TopicsExpress

Hope everyone can get out and enjoy the weather today. Chances for showers and storms today are at their lowest percentage that we have seen in about 8 days. A 20% chance of showers and storms and those will mainly be confined to the mountains. One may drift out over the foothills very briefly before falling apart. We need to watch Saturday. I am seeing signs a a serious flash flood event could unfold. Rainfall rates could be well over 2.5inches per hour. With the potential of slow moving widespread rain and thunderstorms, this could be the most rainfall that we have seen in one day since May 6th, 2013. That date made for some moderate flooding along main stem rivers. The Catawba rose up onto the Greenway and up to the Boardwalk at River Village. We will need to monitor this situation close. If you have outdoor plans on Saturday you may want to start thinking about an alternative. It looks like a washout. Sunday and Monday look to hold a 50% coverage of showers and storms as well. Mid to late week next week, including the 4th of July, a heat wave may move into the area soaring temps into the mid and in some cases, upper 90s. Thunderstorm chances would be only 10% if that forecast verifies. Stay up to date with the most accurate forecast for the foothills and NW Piedmont anytime at burkeweather.org. Chris White
