Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. We thought wed take a moment to catch everyone up on the latest going on in Medford. The Tip-a-Cop event went great, we raised $5,229! Up from $3,900 last year. Proceeds go towards the Special Olympics and we would like to thank everyone for the outstanding support! Crime Update: We responded to Food 4 Less for a shoplifter who was fighting with employees. They were able to get him into custody prior to our arrival, however, he continued to try to bite and kick officers, but was not successful. Kody Halverson, 21, was lodged in jail on several charges. An unknown suspect broke into a building at 616 Market Street and stole several items that were being stored there, such as a green golf cart, two mountain bikes, a vacuum and other miscellaneous property. We kept a close eye on Pear Blossom Park and there were no reported incidents, which is good. That is such a nice park, if you havent seen it go check it out. Its at 5th and Bartlett, right next to the new Lithia building. Scam Alert: A resident was contacted by someone claiming to be with Pacific Power and advised they were behind on their bill and their power would be shut off shortly. The person told the victim to pay them by purchasing prepaid VISA cards (Green Dot Cards) and give them the code over the phone, which the victim did. The prepaid credit cards are a common theme with the phone scams. Another resident responded to a Craigslist ad for a nice house in East Medford for rent. They got a long email explanation in response, advising they were out of the country and blah blah blah, send money. Luckily this person thought something wasnt right and looked into it further and determined it was a scam.
