Special Event -- Common Core 101 and Pre-filed House Bill BR 97 December 6, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. at the Beaumont Branch, Lexington Public Library, 3080 Fieldstone Way, Lexington KY 40513 Includes an audio visual presentation about Common Core standards, testing and data collection adopted by the Department of Education in Kentucky. • Facilitator Terry Donoghue of the Kentuckians Against Common Core (KACC) will present an informational program featuring Kentucky House Bill BR 97, pre-filed by Rep. Thomas Kerr (R-Taylor Mill) for the 2015 legislative session beginning in January. The Bill amends the Kentucky statute to withdraw Kentucky from the Common Core program; directs a more rigorous set of standards for English and mathematics; and, addresses science standards, permitting Kentuckians to determine the best standards for schools in the Commonwealth. • The presentation will explain where the standards originated and what Kentuckians can do about them right now.
