Hopefully these have an appeal of impressionistic qualities, I - TopicsExpress

Hopefully these have an appeal of impressionistic qualities, I guess thats somewhat subjective. They are daguerreotypes I have made (emulsion-less images made directly on a polished silver plate). There is a lot I could say about technical details, perhaps I can elaborate more in the comments. The main vehicle for impressionist qualities is that I use brass barrelled lens from the mid 19th century which give a shallow depth of field concentrated in the center of the image. Another other worldly quality is that as in-camera originals (there is no negative and each is a one off) they are laterally reversed, which gives a unusual quality to portraits when you know the sitter. The first few images we taken in Ireland in County Cork and the horses head (subject was a piece of silver sculpture) the trees and the Angel were taken here in New Zealand.
