Horticulture deptt organizes fruit-show-cum-Kissan Mela RAJOURI, SEPTEMBER 07-In order to promote Horticulture in Rajouri District of Jammu Division the Department of Horticulture organized Fruit Show cum Kissan Mela at Rajouri. The Fruit Show was inaugurated by Director, Horticulture, Jammu, Anil Kumar Sharma. Chief Planning Officer, Rajouri Chowdhary Abdul Hamid, Dy. Director Horticulture Central, Jammu, Rajiv Mahajan, Chief Horticulture Officer, Rajouri, Yogesh Kumar Kesar, Subject Matter Specialist, Pomology Ashwani Kumar, the Horticulture Development Officers of all blocks of Rajouri District besides the representatives of allied departments like Agriculture, Sericulture, Sheep Husbandry, Animal Husbandry, ISM were present on the occasion. About 500 Nos. of Farmers/Fruit growers from the far flung areas of the district Rajouri participated along with their fruit exhibits. More than 550 fruit samples including fresh and dried samples of various kinds viz. Apple, Pear. Quince, Papaya, Anar, Persimmon, Mosambi, Lime, Galgal, Aonla, Baramasi Mango, Walnut, Almond, and Peanut were displayed in the Fruit Show. The best exhibits were prized to encourage the fruit grower of the District. Besides this, value added products such as Jam, Juice, Pickles, Squashes of different fruits were also displayed to boost the home scale processing of surplus production. The Director Horticulture while addressing the farmers advised them to avail maximum benefits from the Developmental Schemes of the Department presently under implementation in the District and also impressed upon the Chief Horticulture Officer Rajouri to organize such programmes in other far flung areas of the District also so that maximum awareness about the departmental programmes is created and the farmers of the district get benefited. The Dy. Director Central Jammu while addressing the farmers briefed them about the different Developmental Schemes/programmes of the department and urged to frequently interact with the field functionaries to take maximum benefit from these programmes Chief Horticulture officer, Rajouri briefed them about the incentives available under various Centrally sponsored schemes viz Horticulture Mission for north East and Himalayan States (HMNH), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) and National Mission on Medicinal Plants (NMMP). Farmers of the District put forth several queries regarding Horticulture activities which were addressed on the spot by the departmental experts. Some progressive farmers from different Horticulture Zone of the District also shared their experience with the farming community asking them to drive maximum benefit from the Horticulture related activities.
