Hospital: Day 2 I was in the office today so I missed seeing the Dr during rounds. Our awesome nurse Susan (I want to take her home with me) gave me the run down when I got here. Joe has expressed an intense desire to go home tomorrow. No surprise there. However, despite the transfusion yesterday, his counts are still not near normal. His white blood count rose from .7 to 1.1. His hemoglobin rose from 6.3 to 6.8. And his platelets dropped from 21 to 11. Acceptable is 7, 10, and 100. He received another bag of blood today. Hell need platelets tomorrow if his level drops to 10. The medications hes on are helping him feel normal, which is great, but that gives him a false sense of health, which fuels the desire to go home, which leads to frustration when hes stuck sitting here. Itll be an interesting going home discussion between Joe and the Drs. Both sides would look to me for support, which would be an absolute no win scenario no matter which way you slice it. So maybe its not so bad that Im just the teensiest bit glad Ill be at work during rounds tomorrow. About that recliner.... Ive slept on better and Ive slept on worse. For an industrial chair, the support is pretty impressive. It would be awesome if it fully reclined. It stops at about a 25 degree angle, which makes side sleeping rather uncomfortable. It was still better than sleeping (dozing) in the plastic chair in the ER, with the arm digging into my side while I used the clothes bag in the other chair as a pillow. I was needlessly worried about whether the alarm on my phone would go off. The IV alarms were going off all night and I gave up on sleep at 4:45. I had a nice long hot shower and got to work on time despite too many people gawking at the horrific accident on the other side of the highway so it worked out. Joes playing some game or another on the computer. Im watching Gold Rush on Discovery and munching on popcorn. Im hoping for an uneventful quiet evening. Fingers crossed!
