Hot Job Announcement Carlsbad, NM Position Title: Consulting Chemistry Engineer (FS97752) Minimum Requirements: Minimum Requirements: -Bachelor of Science degree in an Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from a four year accredited college or university. -6 years of professional experience with RCRA regulations as they relate to waste characterization, environmental compliance and operations of a TSDF and experience in evaluating sampling/monitoring data evaluation. - Candidate must be capable of supporting all regulatory and technical aspects of WIPP environmental programs. - Due to the nature of the work, candidate must be a US Citizen Preferred Requirements: - Chemical engineer or chemist with environmental emphasis preferred. - Experience at a permitted TSDF evaluating mixed TRU waste streams, evaluating characterization data, monitoring data. - Experience at a nuclear facility. Additional Information: Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test. Salary: $TBD$ Job Description: URS Corporation is seeking a Consulting Chemistry Engineer to be based in our Carlsbad, NM location. Typical Responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, the following: This position is to support technical/regulatory aspects of the WIPP Environmental Program and entails developing and/or reviewing regulatory and technical documents in support of the WIPPs environmental programs. These programs include RCRA Permitting, Environmental Monitoring, Facility Compliance and EPA Compliance. The regulatory agencies include the Department of Energy, the New Mexico Environment Department, EPA Region 6, and EPA Headquarters. Interfaces include these regulatory agencies, NM Stakeholders, the Carlsbads Mayors Task Force, the Central Characterization Program, the WIPP Recovery Team and generator storage/sites. Duties include but are not limited to the following on an as needed basis: • Support the WIPP Hazardous Waste Facility Permit (Permit) modification process by preparing Permit Modification Requests (PMRs), conducting technical reviews, participating in public meetings, developing responses to the DOE and Stakeholder comments and responding to NMED requests for additional information or Notices of Deficiency. • Provide regulatory and technical support as needed to WIPP recovery efforts • Perform technical review of generator/storage site submitted waste stream profile forms and supporting documentation • Provide technical/compliance support In transuranic waste management activities as needed and requested • Prepare Regulatory Compliance Evaluations, procedures, technical documents and perform peer reviews of these documents • Provide technical and compliance related support as needed to generator/storage sites and the Permittees to implement the Waste Analysis Plan and RCRA large quantity generator requirements • Identify and assure compliance with regulatory, licensing and state requirements. • Review and support preparation of expert testimony before regulatory bodies and courts. • Prepares and makes presentations to DOE and URS management. • Excellent verbal and written communicator, self-starter, able to work with little supervision, able to perform under pressure situations such as tight deadlines and long hours. • Maintains positive working relationships with peer leaders. • Builds productive relationships with organizations within and external to Regulatory and Environmental Services.
