The Bachelor of Hotel, Casino & Resort Management (BA) provides you with a multi-skilled management degree with strong emphasis on casino and resort development. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The MC Bachelor Degree of Arts in Hotel, Casino & Resort Management was designed for students with a career interest in the hotel and resort industry. The hotel and resort industry represents a wide range of businesses, from the small country inn or bed and breakfast, to multinational chains of hotels and resorts. MC aims to transform potential students into managers with a sound grasp of both theory and practice, infused with dynamism, professional competencies and hospitality vision. The bachelor was design by considering the unique competitive advantage of MC and its differentiation point which concerns the ownership and operation of Paphiessa Hotel & Resort. This unique point allows MC, as a tertiary education institution, to provide all those real workplace conditions where students will have an opportunity to implement in a real working environment all material taught and learned from a theoretical perspective during their studies. Required and elective courses have been developed as to give students a strong sense of managerial responsibilities needed in hotel and resort industry. More specifically, the program provides to students a solid hospitality and business education through required courses. Also, students may select hospitality and business electives courses such as: Club Management, Special Event, Service Innovation, Spa, Change & Creativity, and Knowledge & Crisis Management. A number of required and elective courses from other thematic areas should be completed as well: English and Foreign Language, Math and Computer Studies, Social Science and Liberal Arts. The curriculum is carefully balanced between theory and practice, giving students many opportunities for group projects, case studies, and individual presentations. The curriculum provides the necessary competencies that will prepare students for cutting-edge opportunities in the hotel and resort industry. In addition to the on-campus education and the practical workshops taking place in the areas of Paphiessa Hotel & Resort, students are required to complete three internships, 480 hours each in the hospitality industry (summer). These internships will improve even more the students’ professional competencies, ensuring a balance between on-campus education and real-world experiences in order to open the professional horizons to fulltime employment following graduation. Students who successfully complete their studies are expected to: Gain an in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the nature of hotel and resort industry Understand the characteristics of the hotel and resort consumer and implications for the management of service encounters Gain a comprehensive knowledge in the areas of hotel and resort global business environment Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the management and technical disciplines relevant to hotel and resort management Address socioeconomic, cultural and environmental issues relevant to hotels and resorts Obtain an understanding of the management of organizational personnel and resources Be able to apply a wide range of acquired skills through the practice of hospitality management, and critically reflect on that practice Acquire the attributes of a supervisory-level employee, along with organizational abilities Be developed academically through Major, Business, General, Computer, English and Foreign Language, Mathematics and Statistics courses Develop managerial skills through academic, workplace learning activities and internships. Analyze business problems and to propose innovative solutions Acquire cognitive and transferable skills Develop problem-solving and communication skills To critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize theories, concepts and practice within the context of the hotel and resort sector and to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge, understanding and a skills base drawn from a, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary study of hospitality management. Develop a supportive organizational environment that fosters teamwork, loyalty, creativity and mutual understanding Develop operational plans, and to organize and control organizational resources in order to optimize customer expectations in the hospitality and tourism environment Set the foundation for further education in this discipline
