GLOBAL FACT: This would amount to some 26 million tonnes of illegal fish stolen annually around the globe. The environmental cost of illegal fishing is substantial: in the past fifty or so years, one in four fisheries has collapsed, largely because of these illegal global activities. DOMESTIC FACT: Over the decades, illegal fishing in The Bahamas has been costly to The Bahamas Fishing Industry, lost of hundreds of millions, and has a substantial negative environmental impact on our marine resources. POTENTIAL SOLUTION: This UK Based, is a new Satellite Base Surveillance Centre is a Virtual Watch Room facility. It has the capacity to locate fishing boats anywhere in the world. This new technology service, global surveillance of fishing boats, if contracted by The Bahamas Government and utilised in collaboration with the new Royal Bahamas Defence Force fleet can be the solution to substantially reduce illegal fishing activities throughout seawaters of The Bahamas.
