How The Suspension of Residency Program for Physicians Could Have been Avoided. When the gods wants to destroy a man he makes them mad_ African proverb. A student who is paid to learn is not expected to gang up against the employee and sponsor er otherwise he will stop the program, that is what the FG did to the residency program. A child who refuse the mother sleeping will not sleep too. Resident Doctors are physicians still in training in their area of specialty , they are sponsored by government and Ideally not expected to go on strike because they are not a trade union they are Association of Resident Doctors ( ARD), Associations are not legally empowered to go on strike, except registered or affiliated to a trade union. But this students are on strike with their parent body NMA. Resident Doctors should have used the Ebola virus epidemic facing the nation to excuse themselves from the strike but they failed to heed all the plea by government to go back to work. They should have known that it is not wise to bite the finger feeding you. Many physicians are of the thought that since Gov. Fashola failed trying to implement this type of sack some time ago the president cannot attempt it, but He just did it and NMA may likely not be able to do more than continuing the strike. Never underestimate anybody because Meekness is not weakness. And this privileged individual who receive this free training and even good payment during the training have ganged up against others in the health sector from enjoying same benefit as they do. You dont hold others down and fly at the same time. The sky is big enough for all birds to fly. The continuous training of physicians in the country by government is very necessary to ensure specialization in different field of medicine, other care providers should be given same training in their field to ensure improvement in the health sector .
