An advertisement in the 13-Apr-1939 Atlanta (TX) Citizens Journal for a new night club opening south of Vivian. Note this was before Hwy 1 was constructed, hence Hwy 8 was the same road as what is called Old Mooringsport Road (Hwy 538) today. Of note is the admission cost of script $1.50. The location described would put it in the vicinity of Shoreline, once the site of a refinery that employed over 800 people. Perhaps employees were paid all or in part in scrip (correct term), which was a voucher/currency usable only for company-provided goods and services, such as a company store.. While no information could be found for Frank Monaco and orchestra, or the other floor show acts, the upcoming Saturday performers, Bob and Joe Shelton and the Sunshine Boys, gained a level of fame, performing in Texas and Oklahoma, as well as Louisiana, where they appeared on KWKH radio and the Louisiana Hayride. They had a couple of hits, notably Deep Ellum Blues, a song later covered by several musicians including the Grateful Dead and Levon Helm of The Band.
