How awesome can a film be? this awesome. From unorthodox but unimpressive beginnings, Kung Fu Panda evolved from the action packed clichéd satire we thought it would be to a real modern classic, one of Pixars greats, and its easy to see why. Stunning visuals are one thing, I mean every fight sequence flows like a well animated and choreographed river of awesome. It pumps you up, gets you psyched for the next one. The colours merge together, not in a mess, but artfully crafted. Needless to say its impressive, its not, its ground-breaking. Consider this the spiritual successor to the Incredibles (though the sequel is in the works). The following scene is one of the most high-octane, well crafted and intricately detailed action sequences in recent animated history, and is one of my favourite scenes ever. youtube/watch?v=6wDoXCtP6ww The way that cat moves its amazing. Its all animated with sleek attention to detail, studying feline mannerisms, not sure how they synced the Kung Fu though. Its 4 minutes of animated glory, watching Tai Lung work his way through the defences (great idea to have guards as rhinos IMO) is awesome, and captures the spirit and flair this film has. There really is nothing quite like it. It does maintain some darker elements, but certainly not as deeply as the second one. An improvement on this, but the original still gives you the tingles with its martial arts. There are some really funny bits (acupuncture) and some sad ones too- but mostly its a Jack Black slugfest and I love it for accepting that. 7- excellent, brilliantly animated and as quick as a Tigress on Speed, Kung Fu Panda shows where all that bamboo actually goes.
