How dare you compare Adekunle and Ojukwu? During the war - TopicsExpress

How dare you compare Adekunle and Ojukwu? During the war Ojukwu safegaurded northern civilians in the east and sent them safely to their region but Adekunle murdered several defenseless woman and children. He even went ahead to order junior solders to rape the women. He was so uncontrollable that Gowon had to withdraw him from the war front back to lagos. He even resisted the withdrawal. An average Igbo who has interest in the war history is well informed about the atrocities Adekunle committed. So you dont bring him any where near a gentle prince like Ojukwu. Ojukwu was given a national burial which many Nigerian leaders never got. That should atleast show the big difference cos rebels dont get such honours. Any one who calls Ojukwu a rebel is not well informed about the war. Pls go get these books: 1. The making of an African Legend......... . by Frederick Foresight. 2. Emeka........by Frederick Foresight. 3.Nzeogwu; a hero or a villain ...by Olusegun Obasanjo. After reading these books you wont call Ojukwu a rebel again. Note that these books are written by a Briton and Yoruba. There are many other books but I have carefully recommended these two writeups so no sentiments will be attached. Brief detail of the two writers: 1. Frederick: A journalist with London Times who was officially sent to cover the war story by the British govt. When he came down to lagos, he stayed in his hotel lodge for one month. And When he realised there was no sign of war around the environment, he then asked the pple around and he was told the war was happening down in the east. On getting this info, he decided to park his luggage and went down to the east. When he got their he wrote exactly what he saw. 2. Obasanjo: A Nigerian soldier who saw through it all from the 1966 revolution to the end of the war. His writeup was motivated by the fact that many pple misunderstood the main motive behind the 1966 revolution that led to the civil war. He said it was the wrong believe that the 1966 coup was an Igbo coup that led to the civil war. He further shaded more light on he fact that the coup was not and Igbo coup as the executors of the coup had a grand plan of installing Awolowo, (a Yoruba man) as the central president so that he could extend his good leadership style in the Western region to the other parts of the country. But when the plan failed it was termed an Igbo coup cos majority of the officer cedar in the army then were Igbos. And it was natural that only the officer cedar must lead such oppression. In the book, Obasanjo asked and I quote; How can an Igbo coup have the grand plan of installing a Yoruba man as president after success? Happy reading.
