How did A Heart For Korah start? In December of 2012 I traveled to Ethiopia to bring home our three new sons. As soon as I got off the plane I was asked if I wanted to visit Korah. Facts about Korah: ~ It is on the outskirts of Addis Ababa, the capitol of Ethiopia ~It is home to 130,000 people ~It means cursed in their main language ~The people of Korah are stricken with Polio, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, HIV, AIDS, Leprosy. They are blind, crippled and deformed. ~Korah is a trash dump...they live near the trash (sometimes in it), they find food in the trash, they make their homes from the trash, they find things to resell. I said yes and as soon as I stepped foot into the village I knew I couldnt leave without doing something. In my mind I thought our family would sponsor a few families, but God had other plans. In January of 2013 my husband, Monte, and myself were sitting in church. The pastor was speaking on Nehemiah. Neither Monte nor I talked but God was working on each of our hearts. Asking us to stand up and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. The next week I posted on Facebook about the 5 families that I had committed to sponsor. Within a few hours I had those families sponsored and in that moment we knew God was up to something bigger than just those five families. We currently have 76 families sponsored and very soon we will be starting an income generating project. We also do many projects through out the year. ~chicken dinner 3 times a year for our sponsored families ~Bible project. People buy Bibles to donate back to Korah. To date we have donated 220 Bibles. ~Rainy Season fundraiser. We supply families with blankets and charcoal. We continue to thank God for allowing us to be apart of His work. I am continually humbled that He chose our family to be a small part of showing His love to the beautiful people of Korah.
