How do you start your day? Going to work on this over the next few - TopicsExpress

How do you start your day? Going to work on this over the next few weeks & look at technique, I had been doing a little different & could definitely use the boost this morning. Have you noticed how the start of your day can influence the rest of your day? I usually get up early, habit really, sometimes it can be 0300, sometimes a little later. I learned to embrace the early starts as an opportunity to fiddle, get a few things done, enjoy the simple things like finishing a cup of tea without interruption & while it is still hot, sitting in the bath & enjoying it before racing to get out for the next person. Yet some days it doesnt go to plan, as is life. The dog wakes me before Im ready to get up & needs to go out, its dark & cold & once Im awake Ive never been able to go back to sleep. So Im up, the dog is up, she also prefers company & decides to sit as close as possible, so we start this little battle over claiming our space. Id like that first detox tea & so I make may way, followed by 4 little paws everywhere I go. I start up the PC, it doesnt start, I hotspot the phone to use the Wifi & of course the PC doesnt pick up the hot spot; cant find my thongs to wander about in, or my comfy morning cardigan that makes me feel like Im still in a blanket, by now the tea is cold!!!!!! arrrggghhh & the dog is whinging, making that sound that is so irritating you havent even noticed the sun is beautiful outside & it is on its way up. Breathe, I tell myself to breathe. The day has started and not as planned. As Im breathing I hear the small steps of the first of little people to wake & in need of breakfast & in need of it as soon as I can take myself from attempting to re start the day. Some days it goes like this & worse. Ive had early morning bad news, phone calls etc. I stopped reading emails first thing & waited until later in the day when I was already charged enough to process them. Some days I turn off my phone to avoid an interruption in the morning before Ive had a chance to wake up & breathe. I make no excuses for blocking out the world for long enough so I can charge up my batteries & face the realities of the day. Take stock of your morning routine - does it inspire you, charge your batteries, get you up & motivated, with a clear head, heart & soul? Do you start with a relaxing lemon tea or a detox or a double coffee & start blasting your head with stimulants, noise & keeping busy? The start of the day can set a pace for the whole day & it can either help you embrace the day with courage or overwhelm an already full cup. So this morning, I have taken the opportunity for the waking child to walk the moody dog & Ive pot the jug on again & going to have the hot detox tea. I have rolled out the yoga mat & plugged in the meditation music, the sound is wafting & the mood is lifting. I switched off all the appliances & kept breathing & counting & let them re start without a rush & let the universe know the day I had manifested & how it was going to be. I made choices, conscious choices, I made directions & I acknowledged the rising temperature in my body, the rush of irritability & let it be what it was & then decide to take it somewhere else. If we have a headache some of us will go straight for a pill, some will drink a glass of water or go for a walk or do something to actively acknowledge the headache & then do something about it. Moods & behaviour are no different. How you start your day can & does set the mood & your behaviour for the rest of the day. Whether it is an irritable partner, a unfinished discussion, emails, phone calls, children losing socks & hairbands & getting out the door. Breathe, consciously & thoughtfully. Go the bathroom, shut the door & count to ten, inhale & exhale. Now to the sun salutations. Start the day with a salute to the sun, an embracing of a new day, you are alive, you are breathing, you have choices & opportunities. You do not have to let triggers & a snowball of unexpected events roll you into irritability & a day where you are out of control & you take it into the night & to bed with you & risk rolling one small start to a day, into a week of moods. This is how it happens. Identify your triggers, the things which upset your balance, breathe a lot more. Take time for yourself, start the day with a routine which embraces the new day & enhances your wellness, a day which breathes life & opportunities into your day. Wake up & feel grateful, feel alive & dive in. Namaste
