How does a bill become a law? Lets wipe out lobbyists, money, and corporations, and get back to the basics for this question. A bill becomes a law when a group of organized people make it happen! Its starts by formulating the idea... Once the idea is formulated it is then drafted into a bill. For the bill to get on the floor it needs a sponsor. Lobbyists usually come into play here, but for this scenario it will be citizens who will lobby supportive legislators. It gets hot and heavy during this process. There will be a hearing and the public is invited to write and give testimony before a vote. Then the bill goes for a vote. It has to pass both the house and senate. Again, lobbyists and corporate money push for votes. This can also work to block a bill from passing too. Once a bill passes house and senate the Governor will either make it law or veto it. The point I am making is that every day citizens can change public policy they do not like! Its about time we all work together to make the changes we need!
