How does a young brother from the westside & southside of Chicago, Illinois make it all the way to the Hollywood big screen??? See the look in his Mothers eyes when hes nominated for the Film Independent Spirit Awards & walks her down the Red Carpet as his date, while shes beaming w/ pride, Brad Pitt leans over & tells her Your sons AMAZING! How does this same young brother choose to step away from the limelight, when the only roles available to Black folks in Hollywood became pimps, addicts, criminals, & slaves? How does this young brother whod never even HEARD of film school, decide to step behind the camera & CREATE the CHANGE he desires to see in film? How does he become the 1st person from the African American culture to graduate valedictorian from one of the TOP film schools in the world, UCLA? Where Francis Ford Coppola studied before he directed The Godfather. How does this young brother go on to teach & become a PhD candidate at New York University, the same place where his boyhood hero Spike Lee still roams the halls??? The point is--- NEVER let anyone tell you what you CANT DO!!! Today represents a moment of GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT & true REFLECTION. A long time ago I made up my MIND that I would work to bring LIGHT into the world by extending the LEGACY of EXCELLENCE laid down by our most wise, courageous, intelligent & powerful ancestors--- who paid the ultimate sacrifice so we might live a better life!!! Weve come a long way from eating syrup sandwiches on Hamlin & Fulton. & We still have far to go. I realize its NOT about me!!! Its about all of US!!! its about the children, its about the FUTURE, its about making this world a better place b/c you lived HERE!!! its about being able to look yourself in the mirror KNOWING you did your absolute BEST & NEVER SETTLED!!! My life is about SERVICE. Making a contribution for our people. Believe me when I say, PROJECT CATALYST is here to bring back all that has been lost in our media & culture!!! The world needs this!!! I appreciate all the LOVE & support from everyone whos ever believed in me!!! & let me say--- YOU CAN DO ANYTHING in this world--- a person never fails b/c they aim too HIGH & miss--- ppl fail, b/c they aim too LOW & hit!!! RE-member who you ARE--- & NEVER be limited by the LIMITS of another persons IMAGINATION!!! Join me as we Rise up & stand like the KINGS & QUEENS we truly are!!!
