How fast can oak wilt kill a tree? While white oaks are slightly - TopicsExpress

How fast can oak wilt kill a tree? While white oaks are slightly more resistant to the fungus, red oaks can die within a matter of weeks -- and there is no known way to reverse the disease once it is contracted. In an attempt to suppress the spread of oak wilt in Michigan, the DNR is partnering with the US Forest Service on a new project using special machinery to sever tree roots below ground before the disease can spread any further. Preventing the widespread loss of oak trees is vital to protecting Michigan’s valuable forests and urban landscapes, in addition to preserving this important source of food for many species of wildlife. Find out more about this collaborative project and what you can do to help prevent the spread of oak wilt by visiting bit.ly/1sxu2ZW and mi.gov/foresthealth. #StopOakWilt
