How many times should we forgive a person? As many times that you would like God to forgive you. If someone does you wrong keep that in mind, everybody makes mistakes. Forgive and forget. No one wants to be around someone who constantly makes them feel guilty. I have seen several quotes saying something like forgive someone because you believe they are truly sorry not because you want to keep them in your life. Can you imagine going to Jesus and asking him to forgive you and then have him respond with I forgive you but dont expect me to hang out with you and be your friend anymore. If we are striving to be Christ like how can we have this attitude? I dont forgive people because I am weak, I forgive people because Jesus forgave me. He knows people make mistakes. Luke 6:36 says to be merciful just as your Father is merciful. Some may say we should not hang out with toxic people. When I think about the Last Supper, Jesus broke bread with Judas. I would consider him as toxic in that day. Colossians 3:12-14 tells me as Gods chosen people, being dearly loved that we are to clothe our self in compassion, kindness, gentleness, and patience. That we bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances we may have against one another. Some people can apologize and its not always accepted or reciprocated. Some people can simply agree to disagree and continue to embrace those we love with forgiveness and some people just cant. I am thankful that my Heavenly Father does not look at me with flesh eyes, that His love endures all things forever and He always wants us with him! Theres a sentence of Lords Prayer that says on earth as it is in heaven. I will never understand as long as theres breath in my body how we can treat people any differently on this earth than we would treat them in heaven. Max Lucado said it best, relationships dont thrive because the guilty are punished, but because the wounded are merciful.
