How much do we have to hate the lost to change them? This may - TopicsExpress

How much do we have to hate the lost to change them? This may seem like a silly question, but it is a valid question that needs to be asked of many of the evangelical churches in our neighborhoods. It is very easy to walk into our church buildings every Sunday, sit in our usual spot on the pew, and admire how spiritual and righteous we are compared to those terrible people “out there” who sin and fornicate. “My goodness … whatever shall we do with them? I guess we will just have to show them how sinful they are; that they are wrong and we are right. That will prove something to them! That will put them in their place. They will just have to get over it and straighten up. At least we will show them where we stand. If they could only be like us …” When it comes to dealing with the hurting and lost, whether thinking it or vocalizing it, this is the basic dialogue of many traditional Christians. Those who are guilty of this may not even realize they are doing it. Thinking I was doing the right thing at the time, I have been guilty of saying and thinking something similar this many times in the past. If we allow it to happen, Satan will continually draw us into a stupor of self-righteous, spiritual pride that produces a spiritually dead message of hate and resentment that will keep the lost bound up in hopeless lives.
