How on earth can the Liberal Government or any government allow this to continue year after year, after year etc? From the CPSOs own website: Physicians have been granted the privilege of self regulation. Society allows physicians to regulate themselves in return for the covenant that this regulation will occur in the public interest. Meeting these responsibilities requires efficient and appropriate governance and a reliable system of accountability. Fulfillment of this duty is essential to self-regulation. One important responsibility of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is to respond to concerns and to investigate complaints from members of the public about doctors licensed to practice medicine in Ontario. In all that we do, the College must act first and foremost in the best interest of the public. THEY CONTINUE TO FAIL! My daughters death through negligence by the surgeon should have helped to bring about the honesty, accountability, transparency and humanity mentioned above. But thus far, those who can bring this about wont because our Liberal government refuses to investigate and correct the major flaws within our medical institutions that continue to abuse Ontario citizens. I have attempted all you see below: So lets look at this--- Hospitals are unaccountable; the College of Physicians and Surgeons is unaccountable; --no, HPARB can not or wont hold them accountable; Deb Matthews, our Health Minister wont hold any of the three above and apparently she is unaccountable; the Chief Coroners Office of Ontario is unaccountable; -- no, the DIOC cant or wont hold this Office accountable (meets behind closed doors and cant comment on medical issues); Ms Meilleur, the Minister of Corrections who oversees the for-mentioned two wont hold them accountable and of course she is unaccountable! Oh, I forgot-- The Ontario Ombudsman fails to hold the publicly paid institutions and both Ministers and the government accountable. Anyone with a brain, reads my daughters hospital records and my submissions to HPARB and to the DIOC has got to wonder how a citizen in Ontario can find justice. Until values such as honesty, accountability, transparency, and humanity surpasses greediness, business oriented medicine, patient safety will not be improve but will actually deteriorate even further. There were times when being a physician was a honored profession and being a public servant was the most honored role in society. Values have changed to the most honored status being obtaining wealth and personal esteem.
