Gaining lean muscle and shedding fat is essentially a by-product of a healthy lifestyle that incorporates weight training, cardio training and, most important, a healthful diet that is high in protein and low in simple, empty carbs. Although this is simple in theory, it is more difficult in practice. Commit to an exercise plan, follow through and ensure your eating habits are in line with your goals. Instructions : 1 Reduce consuming processed foods. These tend to have saturated fats, trans fats and simple carbs, three things that your body cannot process well, and these will not only store as fat, but they also will leave you feeling hungry within a couple hours. 2 Increase your protein. Get your protein from lean sources; eggs, chicken breasts and beans are good choices. Bacon and salami also provide protein, but eat them sparingly because they are very fatty. 3 Increase your complex carbohydrates. Your body can process these more efficiently and will use them for muscle growth. Examples of complex carbs include vegetables, whole-grain bread and brown rice. Exercise 4 Begin a strength-training program. These are weightlifting programs that focus on building strength through compound big lifts that work your whole body. These exercises include squats, deadlifts, bench presses and overhead presses. 5 Follow your strength-training program every second day. If you work out more than this, your muscles will be too fatigued too develop because muscle growth occurs during rest, not during your workout. 6 Alternate strength training with cardiovascular exercise. Essentially anything that works your heart and gets you sweating is good. An excellent way to economize on time is with high-intensity interval training, in which you perform a short period of extremely hard work followed by a low-impact period for around 20 minutes total.
