How to find out if a Sinhalese is a chauvinist or a non-chauvinist - A guide to the Tamil people and international community. There are many Tamils and foreigners who have difficulties in identifying a Sinhala chauvinist from a just Sinhalese who would want to settle the political problem in a reasonable manner. Very often the Tamil people due to their own political propaganda, they stereotype all the Sinhalese people as chauvinists. Sinhalese people are generally good simple and kind hearted people but when it comes to politics they often fall victim to chauvinist machinations and end up going after chauvinists. To find out if a Sinhalese is a reasonable just person or a chauvinist, just ask the simple question, “Could you repeat please or do you agree with the position, Tamileelam belongs to Tamil people, Sinhala Ratta belongs to Sinhala people and Sri Lanka belongs to all Sri Lankans”. If the person to whom the question is put responds positively and endorses the position then he is a good Sinhalese, the just and reasonable one. But if he reacts adversely and go hysteric, beating the chest and starts screaming, ‘Eakka Komatha, Eakka Komatha, Okkama Appe, Okkam Appe’ (How is that possible, how is that possible, everything is ours, everything is ours ) and he spirals on a denial mode, then one has to calm him down saying, OK, Ok everything is yours, everything is yours, we will banish all the Tamils’, and normalize the situation. He is the chauvinist, he is problem of Sri Lanka. The question can be posed at all levels. In the cabinet the Tamil ministers can find out how many of their colleagues are chauvinists. In the parliament, among politicians and diplomats, among students, teachers, government servants, secretaries and among those in the armed forces, we can carry out the litmus test. There are many arch chauvinists among politicians and those who claim they are leftists who want to pretend they are reasonable people, they must be exposed. Even without anyone posing the question, the politicians can declare their stand on the issue, if they support or oppose the position, Tamileelam belongs to Tamil people, Sinhala Ratta belongs Sinhala people and Sri Lanka belongs to all Sri Lankans” as the foundation of a new Sri Lanka or come up with their usual hysteric, evasive reaction and expose them as chauvinists. There may be many Buddhist Monks who are reasonable people like Ven. Sobitha Thero who will agree and those good monks should be identified and should be venerated. Arular.
