How to know you are loved: I call the home of some friends. I know this is a very busy time for them, but I have a time-critical message to communicate and these folks are more reliably reached by telephone than by the less interruptive, asynchronous technologies like text and emails. Me: Hi X, its Valerie Bock -- [I explain what Im calling about] X: Ok. I should write this down, or, well... [Does not cover phone receiver. I can hear him telling his wife, Y, that she should come to the phone.] Y: Please tell whoever it is that I am much too busy at the moment to take a telephone call. X: Its Val Y: Oh, Val! How lovely! [Y gets on phone. Message is repeated. We have a pleasant, brief chat because they are very busy.] Its nice to be on the short list!
