How wise are you? “I Corinthians 1:25 Because the foolishness - TopicsExpress

How wise are you? “I Corinthians 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men,…” I know, and I’m sure you know people that are extremely smart; but don’t have enough sense “to come in out of the rain.” Many times we use the words smart and wise as synonyms, but in reality the two words are totally different. Smartness generally comes from book learning; facts and figures, that sort of thing; but wisdom is an innate ability to relate past experiences to present events. Some people that claim to believe in the Bible as God’s word never read it because they don’t think they’re smart enough to understand. No one is smart enough to understand the thoughts of God, not me, or you; NO ONE! “Isaiah 55:8 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways, declares the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.” The thoughts of God are far above the thoughts of our finite minds! However, the wisdom of God is attainable by us, to a limited degree. We get a glimpse of Gods wisdom when we trust Jesus Christ as savior. “I Corinthians 2:16, For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.” We only get a glimpse of His wisdom because our brains would explode before we could fully understand His ways. I Corinthians 2:9 says, “…THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.” Understanding the thoughts of God is not possible for the human mind, but it is possible to gain a glimpse of His wisdom. “Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge ; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” We must have fear in our hearts for God before we can understand His wisdom. This fear of God where wisdom begins is sometimes thought of as respect for God, and that is partially true; but I believe it is also a dreadful fear. Malachi 4 says, “1 For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace ; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff ; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze,” says the LORD of hosts, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.”2 “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings ; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.3 “You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the LORD of hosts. 4″Remember the law of Moses My servant, even the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel.5 “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD.6 “He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.” I don’t know about you, but that scares me. I don’t want to be caught on that day unprepared, and I don’t want others to be caught. That’s the fear that we should have; not a paralyzing fear, but a fear that calls us to action. When the fear that we have for God goes into action, and we move in His grace then our wisdom will be increased because we will see firsthand what He does when we allow that fear to move us instead of paralyzing us. ________________________________________________ Father God, I ask that you fill my heart with love for my fellow man, and also the fear and trembling that will motivate me into action so that I might increase wisdom, and learn to fully trust You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen ________________________________________________
