Hows this for a lesson? Kevin, one of my junior golfers, shows up yesterday and he has forgotten his clubs in his other parents car, so he borrowed his neighbors sticks before showing up at the driving range. He hit a few warm-ups before I took him on the course but he had to borrow my over-sized glove which looked like a hamburger-helper character on his hand. On the course, his first shot careened hard right, into traffic and grazed the side of a passing car (thus losing the first of the four balls I loaned him since it was not his equipment he was using). On the second hole he hit all three of the remaining balls into a pond, which he finally safely carried after digging into his buddys stash of balls. On the third hole he tipped up the bag of peanuts I gave him and dumped so many into his mouth that he could not chew them, so he excused himself to the nearest tree to spit them out. On the fourth hole he nearly fell out of the cart when he realized there was a spider dangling on a web from the roof. He thought he was free of the spider three different times, but the web was all over him and the spider was never far away. Somewhere in the midst of all this chaos he actually practiced a little golf. I told Kevin that playing golf with him was better than going to the circus, but I have to give him credit--he was still smiling at the end. Next time we might stay at the range.
