Huge Fields for Invasion Tour! As the Late Model season kicks into high gear this week, we have some of the biggest fields ever assembled in Australia for the opening two rounds of the Randos Cane Furniture USA Invasion Tour! No less than thirty cars have nominated for the opening round stanza of the series, to be held at QUIT Collie Speedway on Friday, the 16th of January, while the following night at QUIT Bunbury Speedway we have thirty one machines nominated for action! Four Americans, a New South Welshman and a huge field of local drivers make up a quality field that will contest the series and with so much talent across the board, it is going to be a hard task to pick a winner at any stage of the game. The four American visitors will be looking for some solid results, particularly Jeep Van Wormer who is back once again, this time driving the USA #55 Rocket out of the Oldfield Racing stable. Van Wormer. From Pinconning, Michigan, the 39 year old has toured Western Australia with some solid results, including two feature wins a number of seasons ago, and he will be hoping to add to those this time around. A man who needs no introduction is Ashland, Kentucky native Steve Francis. The 47 year old has also been to Australia on numerous occasions and absolutely dominated, including winning two Australian Titles. This will be the fourth invasion tour in a row he has contested, and he is currently undefeated on his last two visits, where he firstly won two nights at the Motorplex, plus one each at Manjimup and Collie before winning the national title at Bunbury, then last year where he won rounds at Collie, Manjimup and Ellenbrook. The full time race car driver for Clint Bowyer Racing in the USA is a former World 100 winner and World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion and will once again be racing under the Michael Holmes Racing banner, looking to continue his dominance. Devin Moran, son of the million dollar man Donny Moran, hails from Dresden, Ohio, and will return to our shores for the second time. The twenty year old already has an impressive race resume, though he hasnt quite achieved the results he is after in Australia, despite having won the New South Wales Title at Lismore a few seasons back. This time around, the Lucas Oils Series main event winner is piloting the Moyle Motorsports machine and will be looking to record some good results. The final American making his debut journey to Australia is Loudonville, Ohio native George Lee. Driving for Lee Watt, 51 year old The General Lee will be looking to use his over twenty years of experience to get some good results on the WA tracks. Also in the field for the tour is New South Welshman Nathan Disney. Driving for the Ferguson Motorsports Team, Disney is no stranger to Western Australia and will be hoping to grab some good results on his tour here in the west. Headlining the local list of course are the drivers who have recently returned from the National championships in Queensland. Although not coming home with a win, Jamie Oldfield claimed second, while former national champion Brad Blake and Jason Oldfield also performed with distinction. All three will be looking for good results across the four rounds of the series. Add in the likes of Craig Vosbergen, current state champion Marc Giancola, former national champions Ryan Halliday and Brad Ludlow, not to mention the the returning Clint Noakes (piloting the Melvin Brothers #88) and a whole host of others who will be after the champagne and the glory, and we will surely have one of the gatest racing spectacles you will ever see! Drivers will all contest two rounds of heats before the dashes set the grids for the all important finals.
