Huge disaster was averted on December 29, 2014. A Virgin Atlantic 747-400 jet, packed with 447 passengers and 15 crew, originally bound for Las Vegas, circled Southern England for several hours. The Boeing experienced a gear failure, and the right outboard main landing gear was stuck in the retracted position. Reports say the passengers were told to use the brace position for landing.
