Huge strides in the NSICU! As of right now, dad is still in the NSICU at MCV in Richmond, VA. They came and removed the right tube from his brain yesterday so he has several stiches in his head. They have successfully challenged the left tube and clamped it so there’s no more blood draining from his brain! They plan to do another CT scan of his brain tomorrow morning and if it all looks good, they will remove the left tube as well. This will mean NO MORE TUBES IN HIS BRAIN!! At that point, he will no longer be a candidate for the ICU!! They will keep him there for 24 hours to make sure he is stable to transfer, but we are hoping to be out of the ICU by Wednesday or Thursday! This is all dependent on a few minor medical issues that they’re hoping will resolve by then, and transitioning his IV’s to oral medication, but we are hopeful, and the nursing staff is working extremely hard toward that goal! Weve had a very busy day today as he was up and at ‘em quite early. He went for a walk with PT around the ICU then had a little (liquid) breakfast. Mom and I read him lots of your posts on FB and he was able to identify most everyone who wrote something and even asked us to respond to some. That was a great exercise for him so thank you to all for your comments and messages! He had 2 brain injury rehab doctors come to visit us and theyve recommended acute inpatient rehab for 1-2 weeks. We hope to transition him there directly after he’s discharged from the ICU. An Occupational Therapist has to come and sign off on his transfer tomorrow, but pending that approval, and the CT scan/tube removal, we are looking at the mid-end of this week to transfer him. This is a large transition and we’re not sure what the visiting situation will be down in the rehab unit, but will keep everyone updated as we find out more. We still have a long road ahead of us, as he works on his physical, visual, cognitive and verbal rehabilitation. However, we are forever grateful for your support and prayers, and thankful for the amazing staff at MCV and LGH for taking such great care of him. -Meg
