Huge thanks to all the dedicated colleagues--NYSED staff, school librarians, college librarians, NYSUT staff, school administrators--who paid their own way to attend the New York NYLA/NYLA-SSL/SLSA/SED School Library Summit yesterday and today at the State Education Department. Five teams worked on important areas for school librarians--curriculum and instruction, materials support, program assessment, professional development and administrative support--and presented recommendations to to Commissioner John King, Regent Dawson, Regent Tilles, Kathleen Moorehead, Mary Cahill, Renee Rider, Jeffrey Cannell, Bernie Margolis and Carol Desch, and Carlos Rameriz. The results will be combined and published quickly. NYLA Executive Director Jeremy Johannesen and SEDs John Brock worked so very hard on arrangements, as did NYLA staffer Ashleigh Whitfield with invitations! It was great to work with Margaux DelGuidice, Rose Luna, Sue Kowalski, Bob Berkowitz, Colleen Sadowski, Glen Huot, Jen Peet Cannell, Jeff Cannell, Cindy Stocker, Barbara Stripling, Katie Bertrand, Jill Hurst-Wahl, Jaime Pfieffer, Mary Ratzerm Susan Horton Polos, Laurie Conway Brooks, Ellen Frank, Lisa Lehn Perkowski, Amy Jo Southworth, Stephanie Rosalia, Judi Dzikowski, Mindy Miner Holland, Jill Leinung, Melissa Jacobs Israel, Joette Stefl-Mabry, Carol Carol A. Desch, Carl Vitevitch, Diana Wendell, Linda Williams Bowie, and a few others! Incredible talent and teamwork!
