Humberside Police Special Constabulary will be joining thousands of their colleagues across England and Wales this weekend to help emphasise the unique bridge that Specials create between the police and the communities they serve. National Specials Weekend - organised to promote the work of Specials in local communities – begins today and will see police forces deploying their Specials to undertake policing activities relevant to local needs. Humberside Police currently have 401 people as part of the Special Constabulary and regularly recruit throughout the year. In Humberside Specials have an active role across a number of areas of policing including: • Public Order Policing of the night time economy; • Neighbourhood policing; • Roads policing; • Football policing; and • Supporting for events including diversionary events, Crime prevention and road safety. The public are be encouraged to find out more about the activities of the Special Constabulary by following the national campaign on Twitter using the #SCWeekend14 hashtag.
