Hundreds of passengers travelling from Nairobi to Mandera have been stranded for the last four days, as rival Garre and Degodia militia have taken positions along the main Nairobi-Wajir- Mandera highway. 0 inShare More than 50 vehicles are held up at Wajir and Mandera towns because rival militias are attacking vehicles and flushing out travelers. Many cars were destroyed and several passengers injured in Tarbaj and Elwak last week, as well as Degodia and Garre towns. On Friday, two Lorries heading from Nairobi to Moyale were attacked with four people being killed, and the trucks burnt to ashes after their cargo was looted. Confirming the incident, Wajir OCPD James Mutungi said, they are preparing to provide armed security to vehicles. And in Mandera, buses and other vehicles playing the Nairobi-Wajir- Mandera suspended their operations and parked their vehicles at a local security station as they wait for an improvement in security on the road. Speaking in Mandera town, Mandera East OCPD Jackson Rotich said owners of buses and other vehicles had decided to park their cars at the local police station fearing them getting burned in reprisal attacks.
