Hungary seems to be going in the wrong direction endorsing, what from the outside, appears to be an isolationist vision for Hungarys future. Is this indicative of a country under stress due to economic hard times all around the globe? The continued growth of the far-right is alarming as part of a wider trend in Europe. Why the turn to anti-Semitism? Why isolate Hungary from the EU, international banking and investment, free market, free speech, and the free practice of religion? Any of the positive societal benefits that might arise from the Orban Governments support of traditional and historical religious and social institutions embodied in Hungarys traditional religions, historical marriage, and the formation of a positive national identity are overshadowed by a political vision that is alienating Hungarys Jewish community and isolating Hungary from the West. Hungary seems to be throwing out the baby with the bath water by following what appears to be an isolationist political mandate. 1. Can the West/European Union not do business with a Hungary that supports traditional moral values? 2. Can Hungary not support a free market and integration with the EU even if not supporting all the the EU represents? Not surprisingly, these same issues are breaking apart the United States these days as well. We live in difficult times, no doubt. Seems a lot like the angst that has descended over our World is similar to what takes place before a major global military conflict erupts, but neither the West, and certainly not the USA can afford a world war caused by a battle of ideologies. Historians will look back on these years and say, the Wests obsession with ideology brought about its own collapse. reuters/article/2014/04/06/us-hungary-election-idUSBREA3502V20140406
