Hungary’s centre-right Fidesz won re-election as expected. With 90% of votes counted, it still wasn’t clear though if the party would win enough seats to retain a 2/3 majority (needed to push through constitutional changes) - the latest projection had: Fidesz 133 seats MSZP/E14-PM/DK 38 Jobbik 23 LMP 5 Yet, in two constituencies the result was still too close to call with candidates separated by a handful (literally) of votes. In terms of the nationwide vote share, Fidesz was on 44.3%, MSZP/E14-PM 25.8%, Jobbik 20.6%, LMP 5.2%. In 2010, Fidesz had won 52.73% of the vote, MSZP (standing alone) 23.91%, Jobbik 16.67%, LMP 7.48% At the time of writing, Fidesz was projected the largest party in all but 10 of Hungary’s 106 constituencies. Viktor Orban is the first Hungarian PM to win back-to-back elections since the fall of communism. Voter turnout was projected at 60.56%, from 64.38% in 2010 Turnout in Afghanistan’s presidential elections was 58%. To put the number into context, the figure is higher than in the European Parliament 2009 election (43%), and lower only than the vote in Denmark, Italy, Cyprus and Malta. A clear picture, in terms of results, isn’t expected for a few days. Elections this coming week: 1. India 2. Indonesia 3. Macedonia, presidential I round 4. Guinea-Bissau 5.
