Hurricane Alert (Tropical Storm Karen 1310052000) Update: Tropical Storm Karen has weakened to a minimal strength tropical storm as it heads towards Southeast Louisiana. TS Karen is having problems organizing into anything stronger and is expected to be downgraded to a tropical depression overnight. Due to this weakening the forecasted path of Karen has also been altered. Instead of making landfall by Alabama, it should make landfall near Pass A Loutre Wildlife Area, LA as a Tropical Depression. TD Karen is forecasted to move eastward back over the Gulf Coast and again make landfall south of Perry, FL. This will bring up to 1 to 3 feet storm surges to the Gulf Coast. Even though Karen will not become a hurricane, residents must still execute their Hurricane Preparedness Checklists. Flood Preparedness and Power Outage Preparedness checklists should also be executed.
