Hurricane Arthur threatens the Carolinas Jul .3, 2014 Northeast | - An unsettled Thursday is ahead for the region. - Look for rain (heavy at times) from parts of eastern New York and New England down to northern Virginia today. - Localized flooding becoming more likely in the heavy rain areas. - Scattered showers from western New York down to west Virginia today. - Clouds and rain will keep temperatures a bit lower than on Wednesday, but still humid. - Highs from the mid 70s (west) to near 90 (Mid-Atlantic). - Heavy rain and perhaps gusty winds can be expected for the Megalopolis area depending upon the track of Arthur except for Washington D.C. on the 4th of July. South | - Bands of showers for coastal Georgia and South Carolina will rotate north from Arthur today. - Effects from Hurricane Arthur will increase along the North Carolina Coast late today and tonight. Gusts to hurricane force are expected in the Outer Banks late tonight. - Florida will see scattered thunderstorms. - High rip current threat for the next few days along the Southeast Coast. - Scattered thunderstorms will occur today from north Texas southward through Louisiana. - Much of Kentucky. Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia will be dry. - Highs today will be in the 90s across the Deep South. - Cooler 70s and low 80s will be felt in the Kentucky/Tennessee area today. Midwest | - Much of the region will enjoy a dry and pleasant Thursday. - Isolated thunderstorms possible in western and southern Oklahoma. - High temperatures 10 or more degrees below average from the Gt. Lakes back to Iowa and Missouri. - Highs will be only in the 60s around the Great Lakes. - Highs will range in the 70s across much of the Ohio Valley. - Highs will be in the upper 70s and 80s across the Plains. West | - Dry weather will prevail over much of the West. - Thunderstorms will develop across Colorado, New Mexico and southeast Arizona late today and this evening. - Scattered showers may popfrom southwest Montana to northwest Wyoming. - Hot conditions for the Southwest and Interior West/Great Basin areas. - Highs will likely approach 110 degrees at Las Vegas, NV and Phoenix, AZ. - Highs will range from the 90s to around 100 degrees from southern Idaho through the Great Basin today. - The summer monsoon should develop across parts of the Southwest later in the week.
