Hurricane Norbert continues on a track that will nearly parallel - TopicsExpress

Hurricane Norbert continues on a track that will nearly parallel the Baja California peninsula through Saturday. The hurricane is centered at 5 p.m. EDT/ 2 p.m. PDT about 130 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Maximum sustained winds are 90 mph - a strong Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. No significant change in strength is expected tonight, and a slow weakening should begin Friday. A Tropical Storm Warning continues for Baja California Sur from La Paz to Cabo San Lazaro. A Tropical Storm Watch extends north of Cabo San Lazaro to Puerto Abreojos and north of La Paz to Loretto. Norbert is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches -with isolated amounts near 10 inches - over the southern part of the peninsula through Saturday. In addition, the moisture from the remnants of Dolly and the Pacific Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is being pulled northward by the outer circulation of Norbert across northern Mexico to the southwestern United States. This could result in heavy rains and life-threatening flash flooding in these areas during the next few days.
