Hurricane Odile hit Cabo San Lucas dead on, the eye passing at - TopicsExpress

Hurricane Odile hit Cabo San Lucas dead on, the eye passing at about 11:30 pm last night. It is the strongest hurricane on record to hit the Baja peninsula: A Cat 3 storm with winds above 125 mph. We dont have good rain totals because all weather recording stations failed before the eye hit. The one surviving amateur weather station recorded 27 of rain before it went out. It is not known whether that is a mistake. It went straight up the peninsula, with the eye passing over or near La Paz. It is now north of La Paz, with winds of 110, gusting to 140. There will be incredible widespread damage from this. Our hearts go out to all our friends down there. This blog contains an account from a hurricane hunter who went there specifically to see the hurricane. The account details the hotel getting blasted apart around him. The hotel is on the coast just east of Cabo San Lucas. One note: He mentions the sound of trains passing. There are no train tracks in Baja.
