Husband has been out back burning a giant brush pile that has been the bane to our existence since 2010. Hes in full male regalia--old t-shirt w/sleeves cut off, WV baseball cap (no fish hook, however,) and cargo shorts. His weapon of choice? One of those flame throwin type thingies--propane tank on one end, a hose, and a blower thing on the other--borrowed from a friend. I already know what he will be asking for for Christmas. As the pile burns into a smoldering pile of ash, I observe him walk about 30 yards over to a place under the chestnut trees--a place with which Im all too familiar. Hes told me on numerous occasions that theres a boulder hidden underneath the dirt there, peeping out just far enough for him to have to raise his tractor deck each time he mows the grounds. Stinkin rock! he says every time he mows. I know hes on a mission, as hes carrying an 8 foot long metal thinga-ma-bob over there. It has a flat end--a lever, I think itd be called. He begins stabbing--mercilessly--at the ground, pausing long enough only to lift his cap and wipe his brow with his forearm. I step away from the window to drain my rotini which is now al dente, and return to check his progress. The scene that was just previously man-stabbing-earth is now man standing in front of boulder--a huge boulder, the largest boulder Ive ever seen in a yard. So large that I would not be able to wrap my arms around it if I were willing to dirty myself. If someone were to drive by, they may think it had been hurled from the heavens, causing a cavernous dip underneath it and a spray of red clay and sod about it. Satisfied, he returns to the flames of in the now-conquered brush pile. I must admit....watching man in his natural habitat has been quite titillating. I think Ill make him some pasta and tater salads to go with his steak. Im sure my man has worked up an appetite. ;)
