Hwange, Caps Utd clash: fans speak out BOTH Hwange Football Club and visiting Caps United fans are upbeat and confident of victory ahead of what should be a cracking Castle Lager Premier League match at the Colliery Stadium today. The coalminers gave the unbeaten ZPC Kariba a huge scare in the two teams’ weekend encounter which ended goalless in the capital while Makepekepe beat Chicken Inn 1-0. Chronicle Sport took to the streets of Hwange to hear the views of both sets of fans ahead of what should be an exciting match as Hwange want to revenge after losing 2-1 in the reverse fixture while Makepekepe aim to continue rising up the ladder. Mary Banda, one of Hwange’s charismatic and passionate supporters declared that an outright victory was in the offing for Chipangano. “We are winning tomorrow as we have rectified our mistakes in those games where we lost thrice. As supporters, we approached some senior players in the team after that bad spell and told them of the sacrifices we make while travelling at night to support the boys and they have since pledged to make us happy throughout the remainder of the season,” she said. Mutande Ngoma from Lwendulu Village declared war on the visitors. He said ZPC Kariba were fortunate to get a point against Hwange. “It’s total war against Caps tomorrow, and if you watched the game we played against ZPC Kariba you agree with me that they were lucky to draw with us,” said a confident Ngoma. Ajanoria Gumbo, another supporter forming the bulk of the ever-growing Hwange female supporters base also predicted a resounding win for the coalminers. “We wasted many chances during our last away game and all that frustration will be vented on Caps tomorrow as we want to give them a baptism of fire at our beloved venue,” she said. Gumbo’s sentiments were echoed by another energetic fan Portia “Teto” Ndlovu. It will be “teki teki navevhe (blow by blow) tomorrow, in fact we are planning a big party after hammering the so called big team. The boys are fired up and I am predicting a 3-0 win for Chipangano,” she declared. Francis Ngoma, nicknamed “Kamutengeni” in the local soccer circles and a staunch Hwange supporter said he was preparing to “feast on the greens.” “Chipangano are now an oiled machine and what is certain is that we will have a big feast on the green vegetables at the end of the day, tomorrow,” said Ngoma. Bernard Ncube, well known for his tug-of-war prowess in the coalmining town also declared that Hwange would finish off Makepekepe. In a telephone interview from his Bulawayo base, Caps United national supporters’ chairperson Blessing Gumbo sang from a different hymn book saying his team would prevail. “No doubt it will be very tough tomorrow but as Caps we are aiming for a win as we seek to grab the league title at the end of the year. I am however urging every Caps supporter travelling from all corners of Zimbabwe to accept any result as football is a family sport where there is no room for hooliganism,,” said Gumbo Gabriel Chikomo, a former Zimbabwe national athletics team sprinter and Chamber of Mines legend is rooting for the Green Machine. “Kepekepe bhora! It has always happened that if Dynamos lose here we come to win and tomorrow is no exception,” said the pintsized Chikomo. Anxious Mashange, a fruit vendor in Hwange declared Caps will thrash Hwange 3-0. “As Caps our away games are like home and tomorrow we will hammer Hwange comfortably 3-0,” he said. David “Shanana” Banda, a barber shop operator in the coal mining town declared the Green Machine were unstoppable. “The boys are geared for the big challenge of grabbing the league title and I am very sure at the end of the game we will be celebrating,” he said.
