Hyderabad Western Music Foundation is pleased to start 2015 with the following music courses • Basic Music Theory & Vocal Course (6 Saturdays) Learn how to approach vocal learning systematically, and how to move towards a healthy singing voice. Get familiar with the basic principles of vocal techniques like breathing, vocalizing and body posture. Add new songs of different genres of music to your repertoire. Acquire a music theoretical background (notation reading, scales, rhythm, intervals). Opportunity after completion of the course will also be given to join a leading local vocal group. Start: 24th January 2015 from 1-2.30 pm (plus following 5 Saturdays) @ Alliance Française This course is for “everybody” who likes music and singing! Course-fee: Rs 2400 (for 9 hours), incl. material. HWMF-members Rs 2200. Teacher: Joe Koster, music teacher, conductor of the Deccan the Voices • Course - Ear Training I The objective of the course is to strengthen relative pitch, so that students can interpret melodies they hear in terms of notes on their instrument, and vice versa, to sight-read and prehear music even without an instrument. These skills are vital in all styles of music – to compose, improvise and play music with others. This course will give students a firm grounding in the basics of ear training. We will study and practice major and minor scale solfege and conducting patterns. Prerequisites: basic knowledge of reading/writing music (note names, accidentals, key and time signatures), major & minor scales. Start: Sunday 18. Jan. 2015 – 2pm to 3.45 @ Alliance Française Eligibility: Open to all musicians (this includes singers!) who satisfy the above prerequisites. This course is designed to complement the Improvisation and Harmony courses offered by the same teacher. (The course can also be taken on its own.) Structure: We offer 4 sessions of 1 hr 45 mins each - on weekends. Course fee: Rs. 3000 for 7 hours (HWMF-members: Rs. 2800). Teacher: Aman Mahajan (pianist/composer based in Bangalore, graduate of the Berklee College of Music) • Course - Jazz Harmony I This is an intensive course for musicians of all instruments interested in jazz harmony. You will learn to construct chords as used in traditional jazz tunes and study the scales/modes that apply to them. We start with basic topics like intervals and triads, working our way up to more complex chords and the functional harmonic analysis of a few jazz standards. Prerequisites: basic knowledge of reading/writing music (note names, accidentals, key and time signatures), major & minor scales. Start: Sunday 18.
