I Can Do It; God Can Do More Last weekend Jim and I took Mary Margaret to the Zoo. We had fun, minus the 30 minutes that Mary Margaret became an animal herself. She insisted that she was a big girl, tall enough for the zoos rock climbing and ropes course venue. Jim agreed to stand in the very long line so that the zoo employee could validate via the measuring stick that she isnt tall enough. Mary Margaret is stubborn, just like her Daddy. Then all hell broke loose because Mary Margaret proclaimed that she IS a big girl. Mrs. SmiFF says so, Mama. I can do anyfing. You said so. There were crocodile tears, and the hissy fit ensued. Mary Margaret is an expert on throwing a genuine Southern hissy fit. His Lordship, delivered some corporal punishment behind the bushes at the monkey exhibit. Hes a Yankee and believes that a spanking works like a light switch. Seems by now hed know the resilience of a Southern bred female. Mary Margaret, though only 3, is no exception. People stopped and were staring while I stood there with the empty zoo stroller. I was at a very rare loss for words. I just called on Jesus. He saves. Finally Mary Margaret and her exasperated Daddy emerged from the scene of the reckoning. I offered the bribe, I mean incentive, of a pony ride. Jesus took the reigns, and we enjoyed the rest of our adventure. Distress at any age is only temporary. Suffering truly hollows us for more of Gods love. From the depths of despair we can emerge to an even higher level of joy. #crucifixion If you dont believe it, ask Mary Margaret. She found herself despondent behind those bushes. But the grace of her Daddys forgiveness, just like our Fathers forgiveness in heaven, made room for joy unspeakable and full of glory just like words of the old familiar gospel. Sometimes we think we deserve something that we cant attain. We feel like we arent measuring up for the path we choose for ourselves. But God always has a better plan. #ibelieve
