I Hate Heartworms... I woke up to very sad news of the passing of a dog I helped rescue. Marvin was the cutest little guy with an adorable mohawk and he was a total sweetheart. What killed him? HEARTWORMS! He was high heartworm positive when we got him out of the shelter several weeks ago. He went to a foster home to begin the treatment and everyone knew this might be difficult for him, but they did everything possible to save him. Sadly, there were complications during the treatment and it was too much for his little body to handle. Run free Marvin, our little mohawked rock star. Im sure you crossed that bridge with style and you are dearly missed. To make matters worse, I spent a lot of time crying over a black and tan shepherd mix that didnt make it out of the Fort Worth shelter. Another dog I never had the opportunity to meet, but still her photo touched my heart. Her name was Sweet Pea. She was a shelter favorite and described as a very nice girl who leaned into you for love. What was her crime? She had HEARTWORMS! Run free Sweet Pea. Please take care of Marvin and be his big sister forever. You are both loved. The moral of the story..... STUPID HEARTWORMS! PREVENTABLE HEARTWORMS! If you havent given your dog their monthly heartworm prevention, please do it! The treatment for a heartworm positive dog is more expensive and harder on the dog than a simple monthly pill. If you love them with all of YOUR heart.... protect THEIR heart!
