I Need You To Be Human Again: Those who have the opportunity to see the Chris Kyle movie will hear the previous line recited by Chris wife. It reminds any who have been in general combat, close quarter violence and killing, or any whose reactions to what they have done have produced for them the need to disassociate from the actions and distance the feelings side of themselves from what they have had to do. All are damaged by this natural and protective mechanism. Some never recover, but for the innocent families the loss of the individual that they love to the coping strategies that they employ widens the circle of damage and must be addressed. Nobody walks away unscathed by the act of killing another human being. All suffer loss. Some are never the same again. The military or government agencies that require their agents to kill all have counselling programs to address the needs of their personnel. It is important that we all be aware of the signs of PTSD, or dissociative disorders that haunt many after their service days are over. For the sake of the individuals, the families involved and the innocent and unsuspecting public, we all need to commit to the healing process of those warriors who offer life and limb to protect us, and recognize that the emotional and mental damage must be healed. I want to put the emphasis here on church families, communities of faith, who not only know the power of prayer but that of healing of mind and body at the hands of a loving God whose intervention is necessary for so many. It is our responsibility that we are there for our men and women in providing that extra measure of support that we might be called upon to give whatever that might be. The most necessary element is that of the prayerful petitioning of God on behalf of our brothers and sisters. May we be faithful in this as well as all the other ways that the faith community can aide and comfort our needy. They stepped forward to meet our needs, it is only right that we be there for them. - Dr. Jim Garrow -
