I, Palash Oswal, student of Third Year Computer Engineering, am contesting for the post of SAC-Branch Counselor. We have come up with the following manifesto after discussions with our seniors, colleagues as well as juniors. You are requested to provide your valuable feedback here and yield support through your votes. →SIG Incubation Cell: There are various interest groups amongst the wide variety of topics available in every department. This will promote creation of more SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS (SIGs). The SIGs will be a miniature model of a student chapter to promote computing culture across our college. These SIGs will be responsible to create and foster new technology across the students. Every SIG would be mentored by the students of the third and final years who are themselves experienced in a particular field. →Voting for our Electives: Every semester the Department releases a set of 2 electives which represent our department. Subjects which are interesting and trending fail to get a position on the final list. So, before the declaration of elective subjects, there would be an intra-departmental voting to choose the top 2 subjects which get placed in the final list. This shall promote learning opportunities as more students will get to choose these electives from our department. →New Equipment for LABS: As everyone in the department is aware, the machines in the Network Lab I, Network Lab II and the M.Tech Lab are quite outdated. Machines will be upgraded in the upcoming semester. Moreover, issues like maintenance of equipment would be taken care of. →Contribution of Student Chapters at College Level: Every year, the student chapters work hard and develop amazing applications which can benefit the entire college. But due to lack of permissions from faculty end, we end up keeping the app restricted from the larger audience.A mediating committee shall be created, under the SAC which shall negotiate on these matters with the faculty and promote the implementation of well structured projects. →Visiting Faculty and Teaching Assistants: There is a period of 2 weeks every year, when the department recruits Teaching Assistants. During that time, regular lectures are hardly managed. We shall work on appointment of visiting faculty for the subjects of our department who can fill-in the slots of teachers and provide an alternative learning experience to the student. →CCC Portal: We shall appoint a committee to work on the web portal for CCC. Student grievance requests shall be handled directly through the issues posted on it. The solution will be channelled through svnit email within 48 working hours. This portal would allow students to get their cyberoam issues ( password reset, access denied on education sites etc ) solved from their room. →Curriculum Review: We shall organize a discussion channel in coherence with faculty wherein students can demand and debate on the subjects in our course curriculum. Hence rooting new opportunities for a better learning. →Student Chapter R&Ds: We shall work on creating more UG research based workshops through the student chapters. We will try to get research grants for students who go and publish papers, so as to promote departmental support and involvement. Funds shall be raised for the student chapters who deliver on their promises. Amalgamation of student chapters for certain projects at college level would be promoted as well. Student Chapters will be told to promote projects from entrepreneurship angle. Student Chapters shall organize startup weekend type event. Understanding that this post would be a part of SAC, RICS and AAC; this post gives a lot of responsibility. I shall strive hard to deliver on all my promises. Myself being an active student in the department,I shall always be accessible for discussions, feedback or updates. Above stated points are open to discussion and amendments.
