I WANT *YOUR* THOUGHTS ON THIS: I have to be honest about Ferguson. Thats what my faith requires. And I had to be honest about what Im seeing in Ferguson, Missouri. Monday night, I shared an editorial about the furor in Ferguson. And honestly, I didnt know if it would be well-received. But so far, the response has been pretty big and mostly positive. The major points I wanted to make: 1. We need to wait for the truth to come out before we make judgments about whether this is a racism-fueled killing. 2. Media outlets going live and punditry are only fueling the fire. 3. We all need to take a look at what we DONT KNOW before we base our opinion on what we do know. 4. Moms and dads need to be careful how we teach our children. We cant continue to sow seeds of discord, telling our kids theyre all the same or you cant trust them. This only makes situations like this easier to spark. 5. We might have too good of a memory about Jim Crow segregation. If it looks like it happened in Montgomery, Alabama - does that mean its the same thing we saw in the 50s? 6. And finally, we all need grace. Even people who appear to be the villain need grace. We must remember our own need for grace so we can be more gracious to others. BOTTOM LINE: Dont judge people. Love people. Id love to hear what you have to say.
