I WAS NOT USED TO BAR RAILA FROM ASCENDING TO POWER...ASSERTS MUDAVADI UDF Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi has told off those people who have been spreading propaganda that he was hired by Jubilee Coalition to bar CORD leader Raila Odinga from ascending to power in the last general elections.Speaking at the Bungoma West FM studios during the evening programme on Saturday, Musalia who was accompanied by New Ford Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa said he ran for the presidency like any other Kenyan and no one hired him to run for the presidency to block the other contender. He was responding to what he termed as propaganda that he was used to spoil Luhya votes to deny Raila a win in the March 4th 2013 elections. He wondered how Eugene Wamalwa and himself by voting for a Luhya presidential candidate betrayed the community arguing that in fact those who supported CORD are the ones who betrayed the community. Musalia`s sentiments were echoed by New Ford Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa adding that for a long time, the Luhya community has been looked down upon to a point where some people thought it is only meant to produce watchmen and cooks.Wamalwa blamed those accusing Mudavadi of spoiling for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, adding that even if Musalia was not in the race plus all other contenders for the presidency in the March elections, Raila could not still beat President Uhuru Kenyatta. “Basing on the election results, even if you take Mudavadi`s votes, take those ones for Abduba Dida, Hon Peter Kenneth, Hon Martha Karua, Hon Paul Muite, Professor Ole Kiyiapi and add them to Hon Odinga, he could still not beat President Uhuru, that is simple arithmetic,” said Wamalwa. He said time has come when, the Luhya Community and by extension Western and North Rift has to rediscover itself politically aiming at winning the presidency of the country. The two leaders said they lost in the last general elections because of the propaganda that was spread by their opponents, apart from residents failing to register and turn out in large numbers to vote during elections. They called upon residents from Western to turn out in large numbers and register as voters so that they can vote with strength in the 2017 elections. ON REFERENDUM The two leaders said they are not opposed to it but all the other legal processes should be exhausted before subjecting Kenyans to such an exercise arguing that Kenyans can be saved from the burden of funding a referendum on something that can be solved without necessarily going to the ballot. However, they supported the idea of empowering County Governments so that they can serve Kenyans at the grass root properly. AGREEMENT WITH JUBILEE Musalia said Amani coalition is intact and what they signed with Jubilee was merely an agreement of cooperation but not an agreement to form a coalition. The former Justice and constitutional affairs minister Wamalwa rubbished those people he said are spreading propaganda that they are begging for jobs from the Jubilee government terming those allegations as baseless. He said they are not desperate for jobs adding that they have embarked on the serious process of uniting Luhyas in readiness for the 2017 general elections. In addition, the New Ford Kenya boss said they will closely monitor the progress of the county governments ensuring that the constitution is implemented to the later for the benefit of the ordinary Kenyan. LUHYA UNITY Both leaders revealed that they have started talks with other leaders from the region aiming at making the region speak in one voice. They urged other leaders and residents at large to join them in championing for Luhya unity as the only strength that will force leaders from other regions to respect them.
